Real Futbol

I attended my first professional Futbol game Saturday night and it was an incredible experience. Just think Nascar fans with no security. These fans know how to celebrate a team. There are two drummers on each end of the field and the fans rotate through 4 songs the entire game. Stopping only to cheer. Visualize large team banners, a sea of blue jerseys (purchased for $5 outside the stadium), hundreds of team flags, flares, sparklers, and confetti made of notebook paper supplied by some guy with a large trash bag full. Oh yeah, bring your own fireworks. Explosions were so loud it required me to wear a diaper. About 20K people filled the stadium. There are two teams from Guayaquil in the national league, Emelec (the team I'm a proud jersey owner of) and Barcelona. In 2 weeks, these 2 teams play each other in a game called the Classico and the crowd should be about 85K people. Will I be there? I assure you, that is no place for a gringo.......stay tuned.

Referee's escorted by riot police.

Hey dude I'm glad you liked our stadium. We're the greatest cheering group and the best fans of our country. We feel passion like no one else, we cheer without asking for anything...we know what it is to love a sports team. Emelec is the most glorious team of Ecuador, not "barcelona" like most people think. Emelec is the IDOL, and here's a hint: the founder of Emelec was George Capwell, an american guy :) So keep going to the Capwell Stadium (which by the way is going to be bigger, since they're going to rebuild one of the sides, and it'll be for more than 40 k people.)
Keep this spirit, and f%#k barcelona!

Good deal buddy! Glad you enjoyed every second of it. Emelec is an Ecuadorian Passion without a doubt and of course we do have the best cheer supporters in the country. God Bless Emelec!
